It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Jennifer Budding (nee Van Dyk), one of our Cowichan Field Hockey family.

Jen was a mother, wife, daughter, teacher, coach, and incredible friend. Jen attended the University of Victoria for five years where she played for the Vikes Field Hockey Team. After graduating with a Bachelor of Education Jen began her teaching career in the Cowichan Valley, first at Mount Prevost Middle School and then Cowichan Secondary.

Jen had a natural affinity for guiding young players on the field and coached teams from local to provincial levels, but she is probably most well known to us for coaching the Cowichan Secondary team with her best friend Gil Braun. Together they took the team to numerous provincial championships.

Jen’s smile and laughter were infectious. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched.

Jen, a beautiful soul is never forgotten. You are forever in our hearts.

A Celebration of Life is planned for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at Shawnigan Lake School, 1975 Renfrew Road. Celebration will take place in the chapel, with reception to follow in the Marian Hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jen’s memory may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation www.JDRF.ca

Congratulations to Sue Fraser and winning the Field Hockey BC Voluntary Contribution Award!!! Sue Fraser has been an integral part of the Cowichan Field hockey Association for almost 3 decades. In the past, Sue has organized and played with the Golden Oldies team and has single handedly organized and run the entire Junior program in the Cowichan Valley. She has also coached at all levels: from juniors to the U18 regional team. She has been the Captain of the Cowichan Div 3 team (VILFA League) since 1990. She has filled every role imaginable in our organization: coaching, umpiring (provincial level certification), organizing tournaments, and
conducting player evaluations at various athlete try outs. Sue has been a mentor for young players, coaches and referees. Her contribution to field hockey in the Cowichan Valley has been unparalleled.

Congratulations to Sara Goodman on winning U23 Top Senior Female of the Year.
